New Trailer Lights Not Working?

I can’t get the lights to work on a new Harbor Freight trailer. The right rear light works, but not the left rear nor the sidelights. The bulbs are good. Electricity is going to the non working lights. And oddly enough, if I ground the test light and contact the nuts holding the left non working rear light onto the trailer bracket, the test bulb lights up. I don’t think the problem is the light because I’ve tried two. Is this a ground problem? Right now I’m grounding the harness white wire to a painted trailer surface per the instructions? If grounding is likely the problem, how can I make a better ground? Many thanks in advance. I gotta get this boat in the water at least once before the lakes freeze over!

undo the ground wire and sand some of the paint off then hook the ground wire back to bare metal.

Alaskan Cruise, are the day tours worth the expense in your experience?

Are the day tours the cruise line offer worth the cost and are they/were they pleasant for you?
Any particular tours you liked and why?
We (2 of us) are kinda thinking of just getting off the boat when it docks and finding our own adventures, maybe renting a car etc for the day and checking things out. Whatever. Being spontaneus. Is this a good way to do it or do you have any other insights/awarenesses or suggestions? Thanx!

In Juneau, I’d skip the ship tour to Mendenhall glacier. There’s a bus you can take there after you get off the ship that’s a lot cheaper. When we went, the driver did a guided tour around Juneau on the way back.

I agree the White Pass Railway is worth the money.

Be careful of booking ahead for tours on your own. It’s not real unusual for a port to be cancelled. We were supposed to dock in Haines and it was skipped – I’ve heard other people say they had similar issues.

Some of the towns are small, and most of what you’d want to see are close to the dock anyway, so you probably don’t usually need a car.

How long does it take to recharge a car battery with a wind turbine?

I’m planning to build a catamaran from two surfboards, attach a DC pump motor, put a seat on it and a wind turbine (500W) and make this thing my commuter boat. It needs to cover 8 miles in under an hour and back, and I hope to recharge it over night using the wind turbine only (the thing will be moored in Otago Harbour, southern New Zealand, and I’m planning to swim out to it in the mornings using a wetsuit).
How many batteries do you reckon I need, how big an engine do I need to get up to about 10 knots, and how many wind turbines are necessary to recharge this thing over night?

Let me contribute a bit, if you don’t mind. Why don’t you just skip the turbine and the motor and build a sailing catamaran instead, based on two windsurfing boards?

This thing will be as agile as a roadrunner; however, it will require good sailing skills. The wetsuit you planned for swimming to your vehicle in the morning will come in handy, you will need it during the trip.

But I’d not be surprised if that thing could do 16 miles per hour with ease.

my echo gt-2000 wont start?

i was given a Rc Boat than had been made out of an echo gt-2000 problem is it wont start. gas tank has plenty of fuel and its getting to the engine. so fuel isnt the problem. i put in a brand new spark plug and tested that. when plugged in and grounded it doesnt produce a spark. put it in another echo and it did, so its not the spark plug thats bad but it still doesnt spark. please help

if you don’t get a spark and the plug is ok then you have coil /magnet(rare) problems.Check coil resistance (then replace it)(it may be cheaper to just get another motor).

should I get a boat?

I dont own a boat and I never have. but its something that I think I should get. But a buddy of mine has told me repeatedly not to even bother with the darn things. He says between the high gas prices and the long line at the launch ramps its easier and overall more fun to fish from the bank. he does have a good point but I still think its worth looking into. I could even get a canoe or a jon boat or something like that, I dont know how well they would do on a good size lake but I could at least hit some rivers or smaller lakes. anyway I appreciate any advice you can give.

Yeah, get a boat. Get a small one about 16 feet with a small motor (30 hp to 60 hp) and you really wouldn’t worry too much about gas. It makes the whole fishing experiance a lot better (trust me, now my husband catches a lot of fish)!
